A responsible investor offering growth equity to African champions
2012: A partnership between two experienced founders and Edmond de Rothschild Private Equity
After decades of successful investments in Africa both in debt and equity, Amethis’ founders, Luc Rigouzzo and Laurent Demey, previously CEO and Deputy CEO of Proparco, the French Development Financial Institution, partnered with Edmond de Rothschild Private Equity to create in 2012 an investment fund entirely dedicated to long-term responsible financing in Africa.
2013: Constitution of a talented team of seasoned professionals
Luc Rigouzzo and Laurent Demey were then joined by a team of industry specialists. Amethis’ skilled and multicultural team, based between Paris and Abidjan, capitalizes on its deep knowledge of Africa and long experience on the Continent. Amethis leverages its investment team’s local networks for its partners and portfolio companies. The investment team, African in its majority, has collectively invested in equity or debt in more than 200 companies across Africa.
2014: A successful fundraising with a unique community of investors
Together, they successfully finalized a first close in December 2012 and received a USD 150 million credit line from OPIC. With a final close in June 2014, Amethis stands with a global investment capacity of over USD 500 million (EUR 280m in equity and USD 150m in debt). Amethis has brought together a large pool of 55 private investors from Europe and America, many of whom access Africa for the first time.
Amethis boasts a rare network of partners and proved its capacity to build a bridge between Western Investors and successful African entrepreneurs. Amethis is at the center of a Pan-African community of long-term private investors seeking exposure to Africa. Amethis’ community of corporate and family offices, as well as institutional investors, allows it to identify and harness commercial and investment synergies between its partners.
Today: an efficient execution leading to a promising portfolio
As of today, Amethis has concluded fourteen investments, creating a portfolio of promising companies spanning multiple countries and diverse sectors. Amethis’ expertise and innovating approach were recognized in 2015 by Private Equity Africa’s “Outstanding First Time GP award”, granted at the fourth annual Private Equity Awards gala dinner hosted by the African Venture Capital Association.
